A RAK Afghan

A RAK Afghan

RAK = Random Act of Kindness

I got this lovely pink 8 inch (20 cm) square in a box of yarn and things at either a yard sale or a thrift shop. I set it aside as I didn't really know what to do with it.

Then I thought of a RAK afghan - where each square could be knit or crochet by different people and so I thought I’d see if others wanted to send me squares, and I’d sew them together into an afghan that I will either donate to a charity or to a charity auction.

If you’d like to send me a square - knit or crochet accepted - it should be worsted weight acrylic so that all squares have similar wash/dry care instructions. You can contact me on ravelry (ennadoolf) or on my facebook page or by email.

This golden yellow square was made by me - I'm just learning to crochet so I actually started it and ripped it out about 4-5 times before I figured out what the pattern was saying.
And this lemon yellow square is from my friend Deb.

Quilt Blocks on Barns

Quilt Blocks on Barns, Wardsville Ontario

Drive Hwy#2 west of London and you can't help but notices the quilt blocks on the barns!

We stopped at a golf course and saw a placque that told us these were created for the 200th anniversary celebrations for Wardsville.

I found this blog online, but cannot find anything that tells me exactly how many quilt blocks there are on the barns.

Can anyone tell me?

I'd love to know!

Here is a sampling ... we didn't slow down so these were all taken while driving by.

DIY Series - Coat Hangers for Barbie

We know a certain someone is getting a dollhouse for her birthday.

And that dollhouse will have a built-in closet.
Oh no, not like the ones you see in your own home ... but a simple built-in rod to hang Barbie's clothes.

So where to get hangers?
I decided to make some.

I tried the design here first, and thought it used too much plastic canvas, and that I didn't really need all that.

Here is the final design I used:

Feel free to use this and make your own!

DIY Series - Houseplants for Dollhouse

We know a certain someone who will receive a Barbie house for her eighth birthday this summer.

So I made some houseplants for the dollhouse.

I found these "planters" at the dollar store - they had toothpicks in them.
(You can make them yourself by rolling paper into about a one inch tube and wrapping with twine glued outside.)

Next I found green paper and printed leaves on it.  I cut them out and glued them to toothpicks for stems.

I cut a piece of green felt about three inches square, and using a pen to push into the pot, I glued it into the "pots".

Finally, put some glue on the wooden ends of the leaves, and add the "plants".

That's right!
No need to keep buying those disposable Swiffer covers - if you can knit, sew or crochet - or hey! you could probably glue gun one of these! - then you can replace your disposable covers.

Here are a few links to patterns (just click the picture to go to the link).

Knit (with a great experiment!)

Sew (yah, I think you could glue gun this too!)

Crochet (double sided!)
